Tuesday Tease: The Coen Brothers to Release TRUE GRIT, The Dude *is* Rooster Cogburn
Posted by mistergroonk in Movies, One Sheets, Trailers on October 19, 2010
Official Synopsis
Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl, undertakes a quest to avenge her father’s death at the hands of a drifter named Tom Chaney. Ross persuades an alcoholic marshal named Rooster Cogburn to join her in tracking down Chaney.
What We Learned: You can never go wrong with simple revenge tales. We thought Josh Brolin would shy away from anything reminding of that Jonah Hex movie attempt last spring. Johnny Cash enhances any western movie experience.
Why We’ll Watch: This is how TRUE GRIT should have been done… is what we’d like to say. The sad truth is we’ve not seen John Wayne’s version of TRUE GRIT. The main reason to watch this is The Dude as Rooster Cogburn as directed by the Brothers Coen.
When’s it coming?
December 25, 2010.

Tuesday Tease: ATOMIC ROBO: LAST STOP
Official Synopsis
Atomic Robo: Last Stop will be a fully animated extension of the already vast Atomic Robo universe. This new short ï¬lm will bring fan favorite characters to life in a traditionally produced, digital animation. “While Atomic Robo: Last Stop isn’t a direct adaptation, we’ve paid very close attention to the Graphic Novels and are determined to stay as true to the subject material as humanly possible. People love Robo too much for me to try and mess with the formula,” said director Joseph W. Krzemienski.
What We Learned from the Teaser:
As teasers go, it fulfilled the duty of giving just enough to whet our animation appetites.
Why We’ll Watch the Movie:
Atomic Robo is a robot created by the power(see: knowledge) of Tesla. That’s all we really needed to know.
When’s it coming?
Soon, they say.

Tuesday Tease: Danny Boyle’s 127 HOURS tells Aron Raston’s Tale, Features James Franco
Posted by mistergroonk in Movies, Trailers on August 24, 2010
Official Synopsis
127 HOURS is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clemence Poesy), family, and the two hikers (Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet? A visceral thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life.
What We Learned:
- James Franco can meet hot women wherever he is in the world.
- Having a devil-may-care attitude is a nice philosophy, until it catches up to you.
- Having a strong will to live is an inspiring thing.
Why We’re Gonna Watch:
It took some time but a movie based on Ralston’s ordeal finally happened. Danny Boyle’s movie resume remains impressive. Even when SUNSHINE fell into a slasher film trope we remain a fan of Boyle. After reading Aron Ralston’s harrowing tale on Outside Online we knew a movie was in his future. It only took 6 years for Hollywood to jump on it.
When’s it coming?
A limited release on November 5th.

Tuesday Tease: Sylvain Chomet’s THE ILLUSIONIST Reminds What Animation Should Be
Posted by mistergroonk in Animation, Interviews, Movies, On the French, One Sheets, Trailers on August 17, 2010
Official Synopsis
An old magician on the decline meets a young girl that will change his life forever. Based on an original script by French comic genius, Jacques Tati.
What We Learned:
- Rabbits are a tricky sort.
- Wonderful animation is wonderful.
- This is not the Ed Norton flick that competed with THE PRESTIGE so many years ago. Please do not confuse the two.
Why We’re Gonna Watch:
French director/writer Sylvain Chomet of THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE fame is directing again. After viewing the trailer for THE ILLUSIONIST we considered renaming the film THANK GOD FOR SYLVAIN CHOMET. All signs hint to this being a genius of animation that puts Disney to shame…again.
‘I’ve lived all over the place,†says the great French animator Sylvain Chomet, “but I seem to do well in countries that need their independence.â€
Seriously, this guy is fast becoming our new animation hero.
When’s it coming?
ILLUSIONIST has already released in France and several other countries. It’s about to drop in the UK. It won’t hit the US until December. And that will be just a limited release.
Life remains unfair.

Today in Star Wars: The BLACKSTAR WARRIOR. Slicker than Super Fly.
Posted by mistergroonk in Movies, One Sheets, Trailers on August 10, 2010
“Official” Synopsis
Lando Calrissian was the true hero of Star Wars. Han Solo, just a pirate lackey.
Ya dig?
What We Learned:
Darth Vader has more beautiful girls than he can handle.
Why We’re Gonna Watch:
This fan-made(?) Star Wars as blacksploitation trailer is 3 minutes and 11 seconds of love. Appearing in our Twitter feed early Monday. It looks to have viral video aspirations. To what end we’re not sure yet. Blackstar Warrior is a choice bit of funny and we’re hoping there’s a full length parody in the future works.
The deeper we dig, the more this looks like a follow-up movie to BLACK DYNAMITE.
When’s it coming?
No clue yet.
Whomever is behind this, you have our complete support.
