Saturday Afternoon Theater: GroBroPros SKYRIM 2012, Real Life as a MMORPG
Posted by mistergroonk in Games, Intertube Madness, Video on February 4, 2012
We’ve a confession to make. Skyrim is our newest addiction. We’re on constant lookout for dragons dropping out of the blue or signs that that skeevy shop owner really will sell us his sister. It’s an addiction that’s hard to please as we don’t yet own that game.
The twins responsible for Grosjean Brothers Productions tapped into the Skyrim gaming phenomenon our sweet stress release and have made two great videos based on that game world.
We’re glad that the first video didn’t turn into a one-off video and we look forward to more in this series.
Halloween Moment of Who: Don’t Blink! Weeping Angels Invade Minecraft.
Posted by mistergroonk in Games, Intertube Madness, LOL, Television on October 19, 2011
Avid watchers of Dr Who know of the time Sally Sparrow had to deal with the Creatures of the Abstract known better as The Weeping Angels. The Angels were made creepier by the fact they had already defeated the 10th Doctor(technically) and were well on their way to absconding with the TARDIS. How the angels work is they are “quantum locked.” They only move when you’re not looking. When you are looking they appear as a stone statue. The minute you blink they come alive and are halfway to killing the hell out of you.
Now it seems the bastards have invaded the wildly popular geek game Minecraft. The video below tracks two Minecrafters navigating their way through a conga line of Weeping Angels modded to kill. If you can’t force yourself to watch the entire video we suggest watching a few minutes of the beginning then jumping right to the 7 minute time index. That’s when it becomes a mini-sode of Dr Who.
We must admit. The entire video amused us to no end.
Tuesday Tease: Duke Nukem Forever, The NSFW Trailer that Took 12 Years to Make
Posted by mistergroonk in Games, Trailers on April 26, 2011
Official Synopsis: Aliens have landed. They’ve mutated the police. They’ve come for our women. Ash Williams Duke Nukem is here to stop all of the nonsense and maybe take in a strip show while he’s at it.
What We Learned: It looks like Duke Nukem but the fact it has a release date and no one else is laughing confuses us.
Why We’ll Play: Holy hell. It is 1996 and we’re finally getting used to playing PC games with a mouse. Friends come by the apartment to visit.
“You’ve got to play this game!” they say.
“You kill aliens and pay strippers to get naked!” they howl.
We scoff at their naivete. ‘A video game would never dare be that awesome,’ we think. Aside from that Leisure Suit Larry game our strange college roommate played every day in his locked room, games would never be on the brutally action-flavored side of misogyny.
We failed to realize how wrong we could be.
The copy of Duke Nukem 3D that made its way into our hands and (then)archaic computer consumed every bit of spare time we could muster. After we finished the game, the networked co-op play made sure we stayed indoors for another 3 months.
The news quickly spread that Duke Nukem Forever was coming. We saved up the cash and marked the time until it would appear. Twelve years, and a metric ton of vaporware jokes later, this Duke Nukem Forever NSFW trailer made its way into our eyeballs. And it brought the 12 year old remix of Lo Fidelity Allstars remix of “Battle Flag“(equally NSFW) with it.
This trailer looks like everything we would expect from a Duke Nukem game released in the 21st century. However, we still don’t believe the fucking thing is coming out.
When’s it coming?
June 14, 2011 USA, supposedly.
June 10, 2011 Internationally.

Here’s a curious idea. Take one classic tale of the great and powerful king of all night creatures your count and lord, Dracula. Take it from its humble, and now quaint, 1897 origins. Then transform and infuse it with all the 21st century trappings. Instant messages. Voicemail. Email. And cram it all in your handy portable Steve Jobs device.
And the first part of iDrakula is free!
*Traps a spider. Inspects it briefly. Eats it.*
The master must be informed of this “new age magic.” he must know. For the retelling, like the blood, is life.
The dark lord’s humble servant,
G

The Games We Play: That BioShock Infinite Gameplay Trailer that Everyone has Seen but Us
Posted by mistergroonk in Games, Just Freaking Neat, Trailers on October 15, 2010
Official Synopsis
The events of the game take place in 1912. The player assumes the identity of Booker DeWitt, a disgraced former agent of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, who was dismissed for behavior beyond the acceptable bounds of the Agency. He is hired by mysterious individuals, aware of Columbia’s location, and tasked to invade the air-city and rescue a young woman named Elizabeth, who has been held aboard the air-city for the last twelve years. Though DeWitt finds Elizabeth easily enough, he quickly discovers that Elizabeth is central to the city’s conflict between these two groups, as each faction seeks to use Elizabeth to turn the tide of the conflict in their favor, forcing DeWitt and Elizabeth to trust each other in order to escape. To complicate matters, the pair is chased by “Him”, a large, robotic bird-like creature who had been Elizabeth’s friend over the last twelve years of her imprisonment.
What We Learned:
The past + the future + super powers + conflicting political ideologies = one hell of an awesome looking game!
Why We’ll Play:
- Bird. Summoning.
- Aggressive telekinesis.
- Combo powers.
- Insane graphics.
- Incredible plot.
And that’s just from the 9 minutes Irrational Games showed us.
When’s it coming?
2012. Damn, that’s forever away.

Today in Star Wars: @MattStaggs Investigates TIE Fighter and Why You’ll Never Play It Again
Posted by mistergroonk in Games on September 7, 2010
I loved everything about the TIE fighter: the whine of the twin ion engines and the BLAT BLAT BLAT of its weaponry, the cool pilot’s uniform and the very design aesthetic of the craft itself – not a thought toward air resistance (obviously useless in space) or even a perfunctory nod toward resembling anything organic. While piloting the fighters was a blast, TIE Fighter was no mere simulation: –Matt Staggs
Sadly, we never had a chance to play TIE Fighter. X-Wing was our game of choice. It was also the only game our college friends had on their personal computing device.

The Scott Pilgrim Guide for Gamers

The plan was to pull back on the Scott Pilgrim posts after we saw the movie. Our Twitter review of said film?
Re:Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Heart +9; Charm +9; Excellence +10; Adaptation Skill: Perfect! Awesome Director Achievement Unlocked! #fb
Yes. it was that awesome.
Currently, movie box office reports that most of you moviegoers went to see that unfunny looking abomination THE OTHER GUYS, instead of the hilarious SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD. Because of this, we’re going to continue to drop Pilgrim posts until you buckle under the weight of the epic thing you’re not watching in theaters. You’ll break and you’ll watch and you’ll thank us with money and cases of your region’s finest beer.
