Posted by mistergroonk in Documentary, Movies, One Sheets, Only in Japan on December 31, 2011

By chance we scanned a tweet from @wildgrounds sharing a link to the documentary BRINGING GODZILLA DOWN TO SIZE: The Art of Japanese Special Effects(2008). This is a documentary interviewing the actors, special effects artists, directors and the like about the insane popularity of the Godzilla franchise and why, after all these years, the king of all monsters who still stomps about Tokyo the the 21st century remains a man in a rubber suit.
Watch the documentary below the cut.

If Adventure Time ever got a live-action movie treatment we have a hope it looks half as awesome as Phil Noto’s vision.

Tuesday Tease: First 14 Minutes of Games of Thrones
Posted by mistergroonk in One Sheets, Television on April 5, 2011
Official Synopsis
Kings, queens, knights and renegades use schemes and swords to battle for the throne.
What We Learned:
There’s something not right in the woods near The Wall. The laws in Winterfell are unbending. Sean Bean remains epic.
Why We’ll Watch:
Let’s get this out there now. We know very little of the George R. R. Martin series of books this HBO series has adapted. Many of our friends have said fine things about the fantasy novels. We just haven’t made the time to get into them. The HBO series was a passing curiosity at most. Now that we’ve seen the 14 minute teaser, our interest in the series has risen considerably.
When’s it coming?
April 17, 2011 on HBO.

End of 2010 Movie Hat Trick: 2 Killer Movie Montages. 1 Sexy Year in Photos.
Posted by mistergroonk in Just Freaking Neat, Movies, Photography on December 28, 2010
It’s the death throes of 2010 and we’ve gathered a few of the finer video and photographic tributes to its cinema.
Matt Shapiro’s 2010: The Cinescape
Video editor, Matt Shapiro, has compiled a stellar montage of all the films of 2010 set to “A Dustland Fairytale†by The Killers. It’s the visual equivalent to DJ Earworm’s yearly mashup ear-honey United State of Pop. The only thing left to wonder is how we’ve missed Mr Shapiro’s work for all these years?

Filmography 2010: 270 Movies in 6 Minutes
A few weeks ago Slashfilm featured a more complete 2010 movie montage from video editor Gen I.

Posted by mistergroonk in Animation, Books, Interviews, Just Freaking Neat, Movies on November 10, 2010
The short story “The Price” is our second favorite Neil Gaiman short story. When Mr Scary Trousers himself blogged about Christopher Salmon’s wish to create a CG animated adaptation of this short. Well. You can guess that our interest was piqued. Then we saw Salmon’s teaser animatic and our interest shot through the damn roof!
Watch Salmon’s pitch reel and decide just how awesome this film will be for yourselves:

Ultimate Crossover: Superman & The Doctor vs. Brainiac & The Daleks on Krypton!
Posted by mistergroonk in Art, Artist, Comics, Panel Perfect, Versus on October 16, 2010
While browsing the archival halls of Ancient Forever we found another special kind of love from artist Dean Trippe.
Spacetime’s Finest No. 3
YET ANOTHER weird old comic found in the back/forward issue bins down at the MCS (Multiversal Comic Shop). The first issue of Spacetime’s Finest was a super rad find, and the second one was astonishingly cool, but I can’t believe I found the third CONSECUTIVE issue of a book no one’s heard of! I have an actual degree in comics and it’s got me stumped. As I’ve said before, I love these kinda team-ups, and the Doctor and Superman are the best (besides Batman), so I figured I’d post this one here for you guys, too!
Obviously, I’ll let you know if I find #4! (Print available here!)
The Games We Play: That BioShock Infinite Gameplay Trailer that Everyone has Seen but Us
Posted by mistergroonk in Games, Just Freaking Neat, Trailers on October 15, 2010
Official Synopsis
The events of the game take place in 1912. The player assumes the identity of Booker DeWitt, a disgraced former agent of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, who was dismissed for behavior beyond the acceptable bounds of the Agency. He is hired by mysterious individuals, aware of Columbia’s location, and tasked to invade the air-city and rescue a young woman named Elizabeth, who has been held aboard the air-city for the last twelve years. Though DeWitt finds Elizabeth easily enough, he quickly discovers that Elizabeth is central to the city’s conflict between these two groups, as each faction seeks to use Elizabeth to turn the tide of the conflict in their favor, forcing DeWitt and Elizabeth to trust each other in order to escape. To complicate matters, the pair is chased by “Him”, a large, robotic bird-like creature who had been Elizabeth’s friend over the last twelve years of her imprisonment.
