Official Synopsis
127 HOURS is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clemence Poesy), family, and the two hikers (Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet? A visceral thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life.
What We Learned:
- James Franco can meet hot women wherever he is in the world.
- Having a devil-may-care attitude is a nice philosophy, until it catches up to you.
- Having a strong will to live is an inspiring thing.
Why We’re Gonna Watch:
It took some time but a movie based on Ralston’s ordeal finally happened. Danny Boyle’s movie resume remains impressive. Even when SUNSHINE fell into a slasher film trope we remain a fan of Boyle. After reading Aron Ralston’s harrowing tale on Outside Online we knew a movie was in his future. It only took 6 years for Hollywood to jump on it.
When’s it coming?
A limited release on November 5th.

Aron Ralston’s Coyote Freedom

Aron is the guy who cut off his own arm to survive being trapped in a canyon by a boulder.
His full story is on Outside Online.
This part is just something I never would have considered.
3:35 P.M.
I have to urinate.
Save it, Aron. Pee into your CamelBak. You’re going to need it.
6:30 P.M.
A subtle stirring tells me it’s time to pray. I haven’t tried that yet. I close my left hand in a loose fist, shut my eyes, and lower my forehead onto my hand.“God, I am praying to you for guidance. I’m trapped here in Blue John Canyon?you probably know that?and I don’t know what I am supposed to do. Please show me a sign.”
I slowly tilt my forehead back until I’m looking up through the pale twilight. Nothing. What was I expecting? A swirl in the clouds? A petroglyph showing a man with a knife? I start again.
“OK, God, since you’re apparently busy … Devil, if you’re listening, I need some help here. I’ll trade you my arm, my soul, whatever you want. Just get me out of here.”
If given that choice…I would have dehydrated. The line draws at drinking my pee. Easy fo rme to say, I know.
I admire his spirit, though. He’s a survivor.

Update on the guy who cut his arm off:
Aron Ralston should be able to go home from the hospital this weekend, doctors said Thursday. He wants to have a margarita, if the doctors say it?s OK. Odds are, if he could muster the courage to hack off his own arm with a souped-up pocketknife after being pinned by an 800-pound boulder in the remote Utah desert, he can probably have a margarita.
