Posted by mistergroonk in Movies, Trailers, Video on December 29, 2011
We were not able to attend every movie release in 2011. A fault of our not having the cash to make that happen. If any kindly geek movie review blog would like to change that…drop us a DM at @groonk.
*Ahem*
Now that the shameless plugging is over, check out the small group of ‘best of’ lists and trailer mashups we found interesting. First up is a 2011 movie mashup by SleepySkunk.

“We reflect on those who have gone before us. We reflect on their service and their sacrifice on behalf of our great nation,” said Brig. Gen. Lewis A. Craparotta, who commands a Marine division in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province. “We should also remember those serving today who embody that same commitment of service and sacrifice. They are committed to something greater than themselves and they muster the physical and moral courage to accomplish extraordinary feats in battle.”

International Trailer for BATTLE:LOS ANGELES Awesomer than US Version, Teases with Story
Posted by mistergroonk in Movies, One Sheets, Trailers on November 12, 2010
Official Synopsis
For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.
What We Learned: Aliens have been watching/testing us for decades. They’ve judged us weak. Now they’ve come to collect whatever it is aliens want from a human infested planet.
Why We’ll Watch: We were doing our damndest to wait to talk about BATTLE:LOS ANGELES. The entire movie Internet has been chattering through our Twitters all morning about the short teaser. It was easy to ignore until Collider hit us with the international trailer provided by Omelete.
For once, the traditional approach to movie trailers wins out over some avant garde direction. This is a trailer in which we can sink our eye-teeth. There’s a quick skim of the plot. There’s actual dialogue. There’s some explanation on why Los Angeles is so damn important to become the title of the film.
Although we remain weary of any film that features L.A. as the last line of defense against our future alien overlords.*
When’s it coming?

Creators of the *Real* ‘Avatar: the Last Airbender’ Announce ‘The Legend of Korra.’
Posted by mistergroonk in Animation, Interviews, Just Freaking Neat on July 22, 2010
And there was much rejoice.
To say that we are pleased Shyamalan didn’t ruin the chance for a new series is an understatement of the decade.
The Wall Street Journal: How did you come up with the idea for the spinoff?
Bryan Konietzko: When Mike and I first created “Avatar: The Last Airbender†we always knew it would have an ending to it, that particular story. But as the show really took off, and found an audience all over the world, we knew that despite our intentions of ending that story there would probably be a time when Nickelodeon would come calling and want some more episodes….When that time came we had this idea for jumping ahead and telling a story about the next Avatar, this girl Korra.
We love how classy Konietzko was about the recent movie version. It’s a good lesson. One day we’ll have to don a pair of classy shoes. Rest assured today is not that day.
Soon though.
What did you guys think of the live-action version of “The Last Airbender
Konietzko: We’re just really focused on this new show right now, and kind of taking this off in its own direction and not concerning ourselves with that right now.
So you didn’t follow the casting controversy about the movie version of “The Last Airbender
Konietzko: We didn’t head up that film. We’re just happy to be back generating the original content in this mythology, which is what we do.
Onwards to the important stuff.
Would you like to bring a cartoon version of “Avatar: The Last Airbender†to the big screen?
Konietzko: We would love to. I think Mike and I would absolutely love to do feature animation. Either another story, or it if worked out, one in the “Avatar†world. We would be really excited.
What you can’t see, faithful reader, from the view of your computing screen, is a smile one mile wide and beaming.
Check out the entire interview over on Speakeasy.
