That Extended Cut of the AVENGERS Trailer Most of You Have Already Seen is Here, Worth Talking About Again
Posted by mistergroonk in Comics, Movies, Trailers on February 7, 2012
Official Synopsis
Nick Fury and the international agency S.H.I.E.L.D. bring together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki & his various membered army.
What We Learned: Nick Fury believes in Harvey Dent heroes. Loki doesn’t seem to be bound to a scientists mortal form anymore. Tony Stark has iron balls to talk smack to, what for all intents and purposes, is a god. Of course, he’s probably drunk during that meeting. HULK SMASH PUNY FUTURE JET!
Why We’ll Watch: We’ll watch because of all the snark we mentioned above and then some. Seeing Marvel finally step into the light of making entertaining movies from their characters has been a joy for this Marvel zombie. Sure there have been a few mis-steps but with the House of Ideas running their own movie studio it became easier for them to keep their continuity in line. Although, it did get in their way a few other times. The loss of Jon Favreau and Ed Norton will be felt. But the machine, as always, lurches on.
Now if only Marvel studios could get back the rights to Spider-Man, The X-Men and the Fantastic Four. We could get a good sized mega-movie by throwing them back into movie continuity.
Watch the trailer below the cut.

…At least, that is what a lot of the other movie sites would have you believe.
We do think it is a striking character poster for the upcoming Marvel movie. But take away the famed hammer Mjolnir and Chris Hemsworth could just as easily be slightly armored Superman.
Oops.
Sorry Marvel. didn’t mean to invoke the competition.
Good Morning, Marvel/DC Superhero Cake. Your Damn Right Batman’s On Top.

Black History in Comics: Luke Cage Gets Noted for Being First
Posted by mistergroonk in Comics, History on August 18, 2010
You thought this series was long forgotten didn’t you? We didn’t forget. Just needed time to marshal our forces.
Black History in Comics cannot be contained inside the smallest month of the year. History is always happening. It’s too big to care about months.
Our first meeting with Luke Cage happened in the pages of Power Man(Luke Cage) and Iron Fist(Danny Rand. He didn’t make much of an impression then. Nowadays, writers like Brian Michael Bendis can’t stop admitting their man-crush on writing the character. Maybe it’s some kind of wish fulfillment in having a strong character being able to say or do damn near anything to anybody. Then that character get away with it because that’s “how he rolls.” This is only a wild mass guess. We don’t know the mind of Bendis.
We do know Cage’s appearances in the pages of Bendis’ Alias were priceless.
Below is a screen cap of a school project denoting the timeline of notable, and less well known, events in Marvel Comics history.
Right there between ‘zombie’ and the ‘no prize,’ Marvel gives the first black superhero his own comic.
Now of all of DC and Marvel and the Independants in the market today we have to wonder, ‘how many of those comics have a black character as the lead protagonist?’
Seriously, we wonder about this and need your help in figuring it out.

It appears Isaiah Mustafa is hitting critical mass. His hilarious, energy infused, Old Spice commercials has gathered enough fans that Old Spice, the company, continued the series.
We began this Mustafa post a few months ago. This was the first time his commercial gained popularity. Over the months we’ve gathered more information on the commercial and the man himself. It is time, faithful reader, for another post overload.
The Isaiah Mustafa Campaign to Be Luke Cage
Traveling cartoonist, Ryan Estrada, tweeted and drew this to Mustafa yesterday.
Marvel Studios, consider the following a casting reel for Mustafa as Luke Cage.
