Official Synopsis

Nick Fury and the international agency S.H.I.E.L.D. bring together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki & his various membered army.

What We Learned: Nick Fury believes in Harvey Dent heroes. Loki doesn’t seem to be bound to a scientists mortal form anymore. Tony Stark has iron balls to talk smack to, what for all intents and purposes, is a god. Of course, he’s probably drunk during that meeting. HULK SMASH PUNY FUTURE JET!

Why We’ll Watch: We’ll watch because of all the snark we mentioned above and then some. Seeing Marvel finally step into the light of making entertaining movies from their characters has been a joy for this Marvel zombie. Sure there have been a few mis-steps but with the House of Ideas running their own movie studio it became easier for them to keep their continuity in line. Although, it did get in their way a few other times. The loss of Jon Favreau and Ed Norton will be felt. But the machine, as always, lurches on.

Now if only Marvel studios could get back the rights to Spider-Man, The X-Men and the Fantastic Four. We could get a good sized mega-movie by throwing them back into movie continuity.

Flashback: Project Rooftop’s Wonder Woman Wardrobe War. The Whedon Wonder Woman that Never Was.

Let us gaze backwards, once again, faithful reader. The time is one year ago. Comics Internet was abuzz at the thought of Joss Whedon writing and directing a Wonder Woman feature film. This was not to be. But look. Designs were commissioned by Whedon to one Shawna Trpcic to redesign the amazonian. An effort to make Diana more palatable to a theater going crowd, no doubt.

Bleeding Cool shared the following images via Trpcic’s Twitter.

We numbered then for easy reference. Designs 2 and 4 have our eye. The long coat of 2 may be crazy cliched but it is a well worn trope for a reason. The straps on the leggings of 4 evoke a leather/90s feel. It also calls forth another trope.

Notice, Mr Lee. Not a one has a lame-ass short jacket.

Understanding Serenity

In the Serenity-verse, it’s 500 years in the future and the eastern and western cultures have mixed into this neat little super-culture.

One of the easily identifiable points is that everybody can speak and read chinese as well as english.

I found a site that translates much of the series, the movie, and the comics’ chinese dialogue.

Not sure if they are accurate but fan translations usually aren’t far from the mark.

My favorites are:

Dong Ma
“understand?”

Ta ma de!
Ta ma duh!
“F*** me blind!”

Tian sha de e mo.
“Tyen-sah duh UH-muo.”
“Goddamn monsters.”

tian xiao de
“tyen shiao duh”
name of all that’s sacred

Wo de ma.

Course, people in China probably thinking, ‘What the fuck is that!?’
