Music Break: Watch Leonard Nimoy Be a Lazy Fuck, Remain Awesome Doing So
Posted by mistergroonk in Just Freaking Neat, Music, Video on May 30, 2011
This is where we learn that Leonard Nimoy’s “lazy day” is like our Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday. This inventive yet simple music video of Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song” made what was an average tune for us a song worth smiling about. Or at least tapping our feet while scarfing down cheese doodles while watching Game of Thrones.
Drop below the cut to see Leonard living large and in charge.
Nerd Rock #MusicMonday Concludes: Tron Soundtrack. Online. Active. Excellent.

Geek Internets has been excited about the new Tron Soundtrack website that booted up recently. It’s damn easy to see why. Once there, you’re greeted with a slow pulse of graphics, the noticeable excellent sounds of Daft Punk, and a newsletter login page that will, hopefully, let you know the soonest time you can buy up some Daft Punk soundtrack goodness.

Futurama! They’re Back, Baby! Plus, Interview with David X. Cohen
Posted by mistergroonk in Animation, Interviews, Television on June 24, 2010
If you thought this event was passing without us taking some kind of notice, you were sadly mistaken.
Have a taste of the AV Club Interview with Futurama executive producer and head writer David X. Cohen.
AVC: In the first two episodes, as with the movies, it seems like the writing staff is having fun not being beholden to network censors.
DC: [Laughs.] Notice that there were some pretty small fig leaves on Leela and Zapp in that second episode?
AVC: Yeah, that made me think of a commentary track where you guys are talking about having to make Leela’s outfit longer, or show less cleavage.
DC: Right.
AVC: Obviously that’s not as much of a concern for you anymore.
DC: Yeah, the Comedy Central broadcast standards are definitely looser than Fox’s. So it’s become an interesting challenge for us, because we have to be our own censors a lot of the time. And for me, an important thing is that I do think it should feel like the same series as before. Just because perhaps we could show more skin and say more words, I don’t necessarily want to do so. So I like to think we may have pushed that edge a little bit—just a little bit more than we used to, but I don’t think there’s any one particular thing we couldn’t have done in the old days. And that’s very intentional. We have not greatly expanded our vocabulary, for example. So I would say on the whole, there’s just a bit more episodes that are PG-15 instead of PG-13, but nothing radical. It’s not at the South Park extreme.
AVC: Just a lot of nudity.
DC: Yeah. Nudity never hurt anybody.
Calm yourselves parents who’ve forgotten the unique fun of clever, risque television. Cohen talks about more than self-censors and naked Leela. He also waxes about the direct to DVD Futurama marathon events and what’s it’s like to rise from the dead more times than a Romero zombie.
New Trek Trailer Attacks: James T. Kirk Tells You His Name.
Posted by mistergroonk in Movies, Trailers on November 17, 2008
It has been decided, amongst those in control of this site (meaning me), that the area of interest this month shall be the movies. In part, it will be about a few that are out now. The other part shall be on the future flicks. Both require that trailers be available for the showing. Any opinions written afterward will be about the trailer alone and not the movie.
Yes, the month is almost done. I figure that’s more than enough days to cover the films that look worth throwing $10 at.
Let’s start with this new Star trek trailer everyone’s jawing about.
On the surface, the “wow factor” can’t be ignored. James T. Kirk: action man. Spock: a soul divided. The rest didn’t get enough lines to make a snap analyses. Although, Simon Pegg as Scotty is growing on me.
The geek in me fights hard at the logic of building a starship, that is not known for hanging out under the atmospheric veil of planetoids, on the freaking ground. We’ll tie that guy up for now. For now, I’ll say my interest is piqued, Mr Abrams. My wallet will open for you come next year’s zombie thaw.

Zack Snyder Continues to Geek Bait. New WATCHMEN Trailer Released.
Posted by mistergroonk in Comics, Intertube Madness, Movies, Trailers on November 14, 2008
Alan Moore may be “spitting venom” all over Zack Snyder’s production of WATCHMEN, one of Moore’s many genius works, but from where I’m sitting, nothing is gonna stop Snyder from making the thing anything less than awesomesauce.
Earlier today, the Twitterverse went a little mad over the new WATCHMEN trailer’s internet debut. Having taken a minute out of the day to finally watch it, I must say it’s worth all the hooha.
The first tease of the filmic WATCHMEN was mind-blowing. The use of Smashing Pumpkins “Beginning is the End is the Beginning”(Blipped for your convenience) was nothing less than perfect. Faithful Viewers noticed scenes from this trailer matched the book shot for shot. I thought Snyder must have blown his wad on making a trailer so kick-ass that the movie had no hope of living up to the hype.
This second trailer has erased all doubt of that. Effective utilization of Muse’s “Take a Bow”(Blipped again), more dialogue hinting at actual story, and enough action shots to overload your average Dead Space player.
