Good Morning, Young Storybreaking Dungeons and Dragons Astronauts
Posted by mistergroonk in Animation, History, Marketing on July 10, 2010
It’s a little crazy for us to remember this exact newspaper flyer back in the 1980s. Back then, we were the intended Saturday Morning demographic. The only shows of interest to us back then was Dungeons&Dragons and CBS Storybreak. You would think The Young Astronauts would have been on our radar. It must have gotten bumped by Mighty Orbots or a show equally awesomer.
Hell, even Internet doesn’t remember Young Astronauts.
#MusicMonday: 8-Bit Dr. Horrible, Experience the Ph.D in Horribleness Through Gamer Eyes
Posted by mistergroonk in Animation, Games, Intertube Madness, Just Freaking Neat, LOL on April 19, 2010
Joss Whedon’s 2008 web serial Dr Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog is a love that will not die. Nor should it. We bore witness to the fan made prequel HORRIBLE TURN and deemed it worthy.
Now lay your eyes on Doctor Octoroc‘s 8-Bit Dr Horrible. This is not a shot-for-shot rehash of the Dr Horrible experience. It is an 8-bit game-like adaptation that’s damn amusing to watch. Acts 1 and 2 are done. One of the special moments we love is seeing Capt Hammer throw the car at Horrible’s face.
We can’t wait to see Act 3.
Update: Act 3 is in and it is *love.*
Watch the drama unfold on the main site or look below the jump to the handy playlist we made just for you.
BTW you can download the 8-bit soundtrack if you like. Dr Horrible would not be a musical without that.
Tuesday Tease: HOT TUB TIME MACHINE Bought Us with Unabashed 80s Nostalgia
Posted by mistergroonk in Movies, Trailers on March 9, 2010
By now you understand our tastes when it comes to movies. Some have called it snobbery. Others have called it just plain weird. We call it, ‘not wasting money or time on any more of your bullshit shennagins cause it doesn’t matter how many motherboards you melt rendering a giant robot’s balls thinking it’s a funny joke or that racist little robots are the pinnacle of comedic genius we’re not watching your film abortions any more, Michael Bay! You here that!? Never a-damn-gain!’
Where were we again?
Oh right: movie snobbery.
Now it would appear that a flick named HOT TUB TIME MACHINE automatically falls into that area located directly beneath the nose. You would think this. Hopefully, you didn’t take bets because you would be dead wrong.
Maybe it’s John Cusack owning up to his humble teen loser years. Maybe it’s Craig Robinson’s deadpan Aside Glance as he quizzically ponders how they partied in a hot tub in 2010 one night and woke up in 1985 the next night. Maybe still it’s Robinson’s all defining question, “What color is Michael Jackson?” that spared the cash on opening night.
The trailer lurks below.

WAEFD: All She Keeps Doing is “Dance, Dance”
Posted by mistergroonk in Music, USA, Video on May 28, 2009
It’s still a mystery why Jimmy Fallon and that latest American idol winner who’s yet to fade into obscurity felt the need to mock Don Henley’s “All She Wants to Do is Dance.” We say don’t mock this classic, guy who can’t keep a straight face through any skit and guy who’s yet to prove, well, anything, celebrate it! We also say they didn’t get the meaning of the tune in the first place.
It’s been too long between When All Else Fails, Dance posts. Everything’s failing these days folks. Let’s dance!
(via waiting to watch Chris Hardwick (@nerdist) but getting that American Idol guy first and dancin’ you tube)

It was nostalgia geek-explosion. A special reunion screening of the funner than it shoulda been 80s movie The Monster Squad sold out in Austin, TX. On Easter weekend no less.
I loved that movie back then. I love the damn thing now. Good fun popcorn goodness, it was.
» Ain’t it Cool director/cast write-up and DVD info
Inside the Ain’t It Cool link you’ll find info on why The Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps hasn’t made it to DVD yet. The short of it is, if you want to get the suckers pushed into production, you have to shower the execs with physical proof of your fan presence. Physical proof of want equals proof of money being spent in their eyes. On that note:

l-r: Andre Gower(Sean, The Squad leader); Ashley Bank(Phoebe the Feeb, Sean’s littler sister); and Ryan Lambert(Rudy, the “cool kid”)
