Tumblr Watch: NanoGraphicMo, Create a Graphic Novel in a Month. Starts November 1st.
Posted by mistergroonk in Comics on October 28, 2010
NanoWriMo is the popular new tradition of writing a novel within a month. That month being November.
NanoGraphicMo is the slightly newer tradition(we hope) of creating a graphic novel within the month of November. We learned of this one a bit late in the game. We didn’t feel it was right to rope an artist into non-paying work, no matter how beneficial, at the last minute. It was that and the fact we don’t have a 48 page story worked out just yet.
We have to say there is more than one way to skin a cat.
November 1st – 30th just got a little more creative.
The NanoGraphicMo starts November the 1st and ends at 12 am November the 30th.
The goal: to finish a black and white, 48 page graphic novel with cover in just under a month.

Play: DELIVER ME TO HELL, An Interactive Zombie Adventure.
Posted by mistergroonk in Marketing on August 9, 2010
Hell Pizza in New Zealand has created an interactive You Tube game to promote their “win a year’s supply of pizza” contest. It’s a 10-15 minute adventure once added together. At the end of each bit you get to choose which action our very dedicated Hell Pizza deliveryman must take.
Things learned from this clever You Tube marketing venture:
1)The annotations must be turned on in You Tube for you to be able to play.
2) Even during the much touted coming zombie apocalypse the pizza must be delivered on time.
3) Never trust a bloke in a bloody tux.
3a)Never pick up said bloke in said bloody tux. Even if he surrounded by walking death and you feel sorry for him. It’s Zombieland, people. Sacrifices have to be made.
3b)This goes double if said bloke puts on a fuzzy hat.
4)Clever marketing tactics can trump bad acting skills…barely.
5)As a kid we always died in the choose-your-own adventure stories the local bookstore sold. We should have this as a hint for all future decisions in life.

March is Indie Bookstore Love Month
Posted by mistergroonk in Books, Comics on March 16, 2009
Professional author and charming Twitterer, Joe Hill, has something to say about buying books from indie stores.
…introducing March-is-love-your-Indie-Bookstore: The Contest.
How to Play: Go to a local independent bookstore. Buy something. Save the receipt. Send a photo or scan of the receipt to this address: indie@joehillfiction.com. Make sure either your e-mail or your receipt includes the name and phone number of the bookstore in question.
Prize: At the end of March I’ll have a random drawing, and send the winner a signed slipcased copy of GUNPOWDER.
More rules and complete information live on his site. He’s giving away prizes, of course. Signed copies of his works and appreciation for helping out your local little guy.
For the uninitiated, Joe Hill is the son of Stephen King. We’ve heard good things about his comic LOCK & KEYE. it’s a book that’s on our future pull list.
Almost forgot to mention that Indie Bound has ways to search out local booksellers. Why hello there Booklegger and 5 Point Books.
