Late Tuesday Tease: THE FANTASTIC MR FOX, Off-Putting Animation.

There’s something horrifying about the animation. It looks like they resurrected the ghosts of Rankin/Bass and tortured the poor basterds into poltergeists. Is there a reason Mr. Fox intermittently sounds like he was recorded in a tin can? Is that the only place Clooney would work? Oh, so you answered that question.

It’s understandable to strive for a style that’s different from all the rest. Off-putting animation, however, is not how to define yourself as a director.

But we digress.

The dialogue is funny. The story is a Roald Dahl work(Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The Witches to name a few). Felicity Dahl, Roald’s wife, is on board with Anderson’s choices.

*sigh*

You’re standing on the shoulder of a giant, Wes Anderson. Let’s hope that odd animation is the only thing we must ignore.

If You Build it, Santa Claus will Come

Twas the Night Before Christmas
A curious bit of animation made in 1974 spun around the poem of the same name. In a world where mice and humans get along, and even work together, Santa Claus is pissed. An angry letter addressed to our favorite North Pole resident makes Junctiontown the Cuba of Christmas, as far as Mr Claus is concerned. Can The Clockmaker’s invention(a big honking clock that plays music at the stroke of midnight) save the town from disappointment, lack of laughter and pony-less little girls? Probably.

Art Carney – ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas – 1954
While searching for the gem from Kid Groonk’s childhood, this odd bit was found. A beatnik approach to the classic poem. i can’t say that I like it, but I *can* say it’s unique enough to give it a go.

The Mad Monster Party has Phyllis Diller

How, how, how, how did I miss this little bit of scare fare from the always classic Rankin/Bass departments?

The official countdown to Halloween begins today, kids. One scare per day sounds about right. But can he(see: me) do it? You bet your bleeding eyeballs, he can.

Also, go to the doctor and get that eyeball thing fixed.
