Sadly, we have not read Mr Ellis’ RED. This will have to change very soon.
Official Synopsis
Red is the story of Frank Moses , a former black-ops CIA agent, who is now living a quiet life. That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his identity compromised and the life of the woman he cares for, Sarah , endangered, Frank reassembles his old team (Freeman, Malkovich and Mirren) in a last ditch effort to survive.
What We Learned:
As we grow older, seeing well-aged professionals kick the snot out of wet-behind-the-ears whippersnappers becomes more poignant.
Why We’re Gonna Watch:
It’s right there in the post title. “Helen Mirren with a machine gun!” John Malkovich as a drugged out weapons expert, Morgan Freeman being Morgan Freeman, and Mary-Louise Parker being her sexy self are just gravy on that sandwich.
That’s right. A gravy sandwich!
When’s it coming?

On Whitechapel, a message board we need to keep better tabs on, Ellis shared a small bit on the film adaptation of his and Cully Hamner‘s comic creation.
Everyone will recognise the first ten minutes as coming from the book. Then, after that, it wanders off on its own, coming back to the book on a few occasions in terms of literal adaptation.
-Warren Ellis
You’ve inspired Helen Mirren with a machine gun and, possibly, Mary-Louise Parker being a bad-ass spy all wrapped together in a kick-ass trailer. We think we can live with the changes.
At least, we hope we can.
While we wait for the official one-sheet to appear, have some comic covers of the movie source material.
