One Sheet Wonder: Revisiting IRON SKY

The “Nazis go to the moon to build up a small army only to return in 2018” movie has resurfaced on the geek movie talk scene almost one year since we first noted it.

IRON SKY teaser poster

This thing is building itself up to be a total cult classic or a Plan 9 From Outer Space for the 21st century. However this plays out in the future, two things continue to stand out as winful.
1) The flowplayer motion one sheet(which is, sadly, non-embeddable).
2) The song, Under the Iron Sky, in the teaser trailer continues to make sweet love to our earholes.

If the Star Wreck creators want an extra bump with this release, they’ll have IRON SKY up and playing by the time INGLORIOUS BASTERDS hits the screens.

The above mentioned teaser trailer lay below the cut for your enjoyment.

Mapping Out the Fiction-verse

Austin Kleon wrote in may about the useful application of fictional places being mapped out. World-building: it’s not just for fantasy and sci-fi writers anymore.

My undergrad thesis argued that world-building wasn’t just for fantasy and sci-fi writers—every tale has a setting, every tale creates a world in the reader’s mind—and it explored ways that drawing that world (visual thinking!) can lead to better fiction.

Some of my favorite “lit’ry” books are accompanied by maps.

For those, like me, who forgot my previous post on maps(Hello Mongo) I re-introduce the Strange Maps blog.

You’ll Never Be Lost on Mongo Again

The Strange Maps blog is posting all kinds of cartography curiosities. Funny maps. Fictional maps. Factional maps.

If it’s a map, I guess it’ll end up there.

Flash….ahhhhhh!

Saviour of the universe!

A full year before the Flash Gordon movie appeared on the scene…The New Animated Adventures of Flash Gordon hit Saturday mornings.

I vaguely remember episodes from the animated series. But in true ‘net form, somebody out there did and made a list for the rest of us. Also true to form, DVDs for the animated Flash aren’t available. You can, however, purchase Flash Gordon in VHS.

It kills me that you can buy limited 2-disc Special Edition edition of that atrocious flick Supergirl but you can never find the vids you love released on DVD.

But I digress.

This search for interesting Mr Gordon factoids wouldn’t be complete without delving into his comic history, info on the 30’s mini serials, and history of the comic book itself.

Some even consider Flash Gordon to be the Sci Fi Comic strip of all time.

I’m not sure I’d go that far.
