The Cold Logic of War

It is curious that it’s ok to blanket images of a dead enemy across all the news stations and newspapaers in the nation, yet if you use images of torture on a movie advertisement it’s considered distasteful and possibly harmful to children. The movie poster gets censored yet real life, hard core fact, is available for everyone to see. Don’t get me wrong, I get the whole idea of seeing an Enemy of the State get what’s coming to him. Revenge is not a concept lost on me. Yet the entire action is very “head on a pike and displayed in front of the castle”. A grotesque warning to all those who would follow his footsteps. Aren’t we supposed to be better than that? Or am I a naive idealist?

Then there’s the government’s media muzzle on any images of US casualities of war. How are we to comprehend the harsh realities of this war if we don’t realize those who paid the ultimate price?

That whole business smells of an “out of sight, out of mind” mentality that’s downright deceptive and cruel to the survivors. Their loved ones were at the front lines, the least we can do is acknowledge the fallen soldiers and not hide behind cold numbers of casualty reports.

Just trying to sort it all out in my mind.
