'Zimmerman: Part 2' or 'Hey, I Know that Guy'

A little over 10 years ago, I met John Zimmerman. CCRH resident and friend Charles, John?s brother from another mother, told us that John was coming to Huntsville to hang. The only thing I can clearly remember about that time is I was just learning how to rollerblade. Charles and John, being ice skaters, were already miles ahead of my skills and DT was a natural athlete. And there I was barely able to stand on the things much less keep up with those fools.

Somehow it was decided that driving into hellishly hilly downtown Huntsville and blading up and down that bastard was ?a good idea.? Trying not to look like the putz that I am, I went along with the idea. We?ll mark that one as ?bright idea number 103.?

So we?re downtown skating in and around the legal nightlife goers. Everybody else was doing tricks down hills and around cars. I was doing my best to not get road rash. John and others in our party started jumping over a puddle off of a loading deck. Everybody made it easily; I decided it wasn?t in my best interest. Fun was still had by all.

That?s all I can remember from that meeting. It?s not glamorous but it?s true. He?s been back to Huntsville many times over the years but those are other stories.

John?s Queer Eye episode was just plain weird to watch. The Queer Eyes weren?t any weirder than they are normally and the show itself wasn?t different from any previous episode. Watching someone you know from real life being filmed and shown as entertainment; that?s just fucking weird. When the Queer Eyes started to swoon over John… that was just funny.

Charles tells me John?s on the Queer Eye episode (the end of which had John and his beautiful wife doing an ?impromptu? skate together? a nice TV touch that was), A&E?s Stars on Ice and Good Morning America this week. John?s agent needs to call me.
