Home for the Holidays

I first viewed Home for the Holidays on HBO years ago. It was one of those it’s-on-so-I’ll-watch-it kind of deals. What drew me in was watching Holly Hunter’s character being driven back from the airport in the back of her parents’ car while they asked/prodded/suggested/nagged her about a thousand different things at once. She looked liked a helpless 5 year old curled up in the corner of that car’s back seat. Then she looked out the window at the car next to her and saw another guy in the car with his parents. Both of their faces painted with that well known expression of, “Who are you people?!” and “Get me the hell out of this place!”

The movie only got better from there. Of course, after the initial parentshock, a sort of balance was reached between her and her parents. The same can’t be said about other family relations. Which served to keep the movie from being overly sweet.

This flick was definitely worth the holiday viewing.
