RE: Transporter Technology. Not Quite Ready.

I have a vested interest in teleportation technology. How can this be? Traveling without moving is my end goal, of course. My very own Golden Path.

What they know:

Now the JQI team, along with colleagues at the University of Michigan, has succeeded in teleporting a quantum state directly from one atom to another over a meter. That capability is necessary for workable quantum information systems because they will require memory storage at both the sending and receiving ends of the transmission.

In the Jan. 23 issue of the journal Science, the scientists report that, by using their protocol, atom-to-atom teleported information can be recovered with perfect accuracy about 90 percent of the time — and that figure can be improved.

Obama: The Bulletproof President

According to Engadget who heard it from Officier.com, that Badass Longcoat that President Obama was sporting?

Bullet resistant.

According to some reports, he wore a suit made by a clothier specializing in bullet-resistant clothing during the inauguration ceremonies.

While no one from the U.S. Secret Service have yet to mention any details about the garment’s structure, some are speculating it may have come from the line by Colombian designer Miguel Caballero. As we noted last year, Caballero is well known for his super tough but flexible and business appropriate clothing, such as the $7,500 polo shirt that can stop a shot from a 9-mm revolver.

[…]

According to Caballero, many of his garments offer more than three levels of ballistic protection and they are about seven times more flexible than the Kevlar vests that are usually worn. Designers that use Kevlar tie together dense strands of the material (500 to 1,500 filaments per strand of yarn, according to Slate), which is then weaved into the clothing.

This, my friends, is how you know you’re in the 21st Century.

Coming Soon: The ‘Interplanetary Internet’

Last month, while I was busy focusing on nothing but movies(trailers), science was busy amazing the crap out of the world with their innovations.

NASA has finished its first deep-space test of what could become an ‘interplanetary internet’. The new networking commands could one day be used to automatically relay information between Earth, spacecraft, and astronauts, without the need for humans to schedule transmissions at each point.

Spacecraft beyond Earth’s orbit usually communicate directly with Earth – the first to do so through an intermediary were the Mars Explorations Rovers, which launched in 2003. The Spirit and Opportunity rovers transmit data to orbiters, which then send the data back to Earth.

[…]

A new method would automate and streamline this process by sending data through an interplanetary ‘internet’. Just as data is sent from one point to another on the internet via a linked network of hubs, or nodes, spacecraft scattered throughout the solar system could be used as nodes to transmit data through space.

Do you know what this means, people?! The future world as depicted in Cowboy Bebop, is becoming a legitimate jam session.

The Cortex will be a reality. At the speed of thought we will send waves across the system of Sol. The truth of the signal will be spread far and wide. Even the likes of the puppet theater will be forced to admit, “You can’t stop the signal.”
