In June, an amateur animator, and Best Buy employee, released a hilarious video regarding the iPhone4 vs HTC Evo. The video focused on the blind fervor Steve Jobs marketing machine has created around anything iPhone related. It’s damn funny satire. The suits at Best Buy corporate, however, felt it disparaged the product somehow(see: made the store look bad) so they had the employee suspended.

Regardless of whether he keeps his job or not (which he doesn’t expect to), Maupin is optimistic. “I see it all as a blessing in disguise. I’ve wanted to start my career in graphic design/animation for so long, I see this as my kick in the pants to go get it,” he says.

Weeks later, The Suits un-suspend the erstwhile animator. The video currently has almost 4 million views(a couple dozen of those are from us). We wonder how much of that came from the kerfuffle Best Buy raised afterwards.

Anyway, now the animator’s not sure if he’s returning to work.

I’m not sure if it would be comfortable returning to Best Buy considering the circumstances… but I will definitely consider all options.
