The Matrix Trilogy

The Matrix Trilogy is a damn cool thing.

I continue my Movies On Screen tradition and give an extremely simple write up that covers the trilogy as one movie cause that’s obviously how it was meant to be seen.

(If any of you wish to be total blank slates about the films, stop reading here.)

Act 1: The Matrix
The world is not what it seems.

No shit.

The world is actually a machine made virtual reality meant to distract your mind while your body is leeched of energy.

No shit?

The main crux of this flick was: Who are you? Everyone and their sister was trying to tell Neo who he was. But like everyone in the real world, he had to come to this answer on his own. Luckily for all involved he choose to be The One.

End act 1.

Act 2: Reloaded
The Matrix: Reloaded or as I’ve come to know it, “action overload”. A huge departure from the thinking man’s Matrix. Which, I admit, did not sit well with me the first time I watched it. Subsequent viewings have changed my previous thoughts on this flick. Between all the mind blowing action there was even more insight into the Matrixverse. Between all that action was the question: What do you want? Zion wants freedom. The Machines want to continue functioning. Neo wants the Keymaker which would help him complete The One’s duties. And Agent Smith wants even more power.

End act 2.

Act 3: Revolutions
Where are you going?

Zion and The Machines are going to war. Agent Smith is going insane. He’s also “going” for the annihilation of everything. While Neo heads for The Source.

End act 3.

Could Revolutions have been better?
Well as Caitlan says, “Everything can always be better”

At the end of the day my likes far outweighed my dislikes. I’ll definitely DVD each flick over and over and over ad nauseum and still get something different from them each time. I can count on one hand the number of films that is able to pull that off. So it’s safe to say that The Matrix still ranks in my top 5.

Sidenote: For those of you who thought they spent too much time in the real world. The whole point was to break out of the Matrix and live in the real world. Not bounce around The Matrix playing at being stoic sunglass-wearing superheroes.

Even if that scenario sounds damn cool.
