Stephen Lynch

Planned funny
Last night, November 22nd of 2003, the cast list consisted of Gwen, Clyde, DT, Sean and 7d. They decided that they would gather their rage and frustrations and go paintballing at some joint near Birmingham, AL. Then the festivites would continue at the Workplay Theatre. Now since I’m always short of funds these days I almost didn’t go to either event.

Like any any blockbuster Hollywood movie worth it’s salt, I couldn’t risk missing my favorite characters together again after so many years(well actually months since they appeared at my birthday a few months ago. But that’s another story). So I begged, borrowed and overturned all my sofa cushions until I had the change needed to attend Workplay. Paintball had to fall by the wayside.

Now I don’t find Stephen Lynch the funniest man in this ‘verse but some my friends rank him in the top 5 of masterful funny. So I gave him another chance. I wasn’t disappointed. Though it was odd that I found him funniest when he wasn’t “inside his act”.

At one point Lynch read an enthused fan letter. Lynch then called out to this fan. One thing lead to another and the fan sang one of his songs, which, ironically, I found funnier than Lynch’s stuff. I asked Gwen if this was a part of Lynch’s act and she estatically replied, ‘no!’. I was damn impressed. Cut to after the show, Clyde let us know that the “fan” was actually Lynch’s brother. Bummer, but that’s sho biz I guess.

Side note funny
While we were eating dinner at The Mill, DT and 7d spied out the window and saw some crazy driver failing miserably at parallel parking. She backed into some poor chick’s car twice before getting things right and hastily exiting stage left. As Ms Bad Driver was beating her retreat we saw that she was in fact an ex-boss of ours. I almost snarfed my beer through my nose. I never have my camera ready when I need it.

That ends my not-so-madcap adventure in 5 Points Birmingham and my movie metaphors.

To be continued…
