A Tall Ship with a Strong Wind to Guide Me

It’s been a dog’s age since I made and shared a new brand. This one was slated for Talk Like a Pirate Day but I missed the mark in finishing the sound element. If you think the random piratey statements you hear(randomly on every reload) sound a bit familiar, think harder.

I’m sure you can figure out where they originated.

Sidenote: as long as this splash is at the entrance you’ll hear something. You’ll see something. Strange thoughts will dance uninhibited about your brain. And clickable links will lead you to hidden booty. One link may be harder to find than another but I have faith in you gentle reader(s). I believe you’ll figure out the pattern.

Round Objects in Square Holes

This section is becoming slim again for I am lazy and in dire need of inspiration. Or I simply lack the need to bitch.

Also I’m letting schooling take a lot of my brainpower again. Damn higher learning.

earthday2

For those paying attention, this is the second Earth Day brand I threw together. The first one was a sloppy mess but I was done looking at that LOST parody for a time.

This brand features a shot of the Earth from the moon via one of the last Apollo missions…I think. It could be from one of the first.

I did have issues with boxing the Earth up like that then I thought, “Fuck, man. You’re not some pretensious artist. You’re a guy with an ancient version of Photoshop and access to NASA’s photo library. Throw the thing up and move on.”

And so I did.

Gobble Gobble, Goo. Gobble Gee. Gobble Gobble Gobble.

Oh I had so many plans and permutations for a Thanksgiving brand. Every one of them met with resistance by my own ignorance. Do you know how it feels to not be smart enough to complete the tasks you set for yourself?

It’s extremely disheartening.

I’m sort of happy with the Turkey Dinner brand. I’m mostly happy with the fact that I finally found a usable and sizable photo of a turkey dinner in the offing. You have no idea how hard it is to slave away over a hot search engine for hours at a time and not find the things you’re looking for, do you?

You should be grateful for my persistance.

Since the image is so honking huge, it can double as a desktop. that is, if you want the picture of a giant burned bird on your computer view screen.

Triskaidekaphilia will Fire-Up Your Dogs

Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13 or the date Friday the 13th.

Triskaidekaphilia is a website about the love of the number 13. Also, it’s a fun word to say.

But enough about that.

Today’s brand celebrates Friday the 13th. It’s leap years better than the last Friday the 13th brand, mostly cause the new one has atmosphere(sound effects) engineered by me.

The body image comes straight from Crystal Lake.

Effects, I dub thee “The Witch in the Woods.”

You can hear that silly ole witch if you click on that little play symbol above.

Back from the Raggedy Edge

The Southeastern Geekarama Explosion(aka Dragon Con 2006) is over.

Tired and beat, but still alive.

This image was frankensteined together with tribal tat outlines found laying about the web, Eragon eyes(I hate to admit), and a cunning use of the Dark Crystal font.

"Tell Your God to Ready for Blood"

Long time in coming. This has been ready for 2 months, at least. Do you know how hard it is finding a sizable image of an old western town on this great thing called the internet? I thought not. A device that’s bigger than science…bigger than thought…bigger than Christmas and I can’t find one big usable vintage photo.

Meh.

Welcome to the town of Groonkwood. You see that lone tree on the edge of town? Don’t touch that one. For it is mine. Everything else is yours. The mines are yours. The bars are yours. The whores are yours. Touch the tree and what was yours unquestionably, unblinkingly, becomes mine.

Hope you survive the experience.

The dead get a whole day

I say I’m gonna be around at a regular basis, then I disappear for a whole week. Couldn’t be helped. I do have filler though. Lovely empty calorie filler.

This was done for the Day of the Dead celebration back in the fall of 2005.

The foley work is yours truly. I had Ponzu transform my idea into a Flash project. It solved a browser conflict I was having by just using gifs and html. But it created a design problem I’m still not satisfied with. I’m a bit of a stickler when it comes to any idea I come up with though. Maybe I’m just being to particular about it.

I’ve got to buy a copy of Flash and soon.

GDN: A tree grows there

The idea behind the Branding category was to create new entry logos for the site on a fairly regular basis. It was to keep me familiar with photoshop, force me to learn new photoshop/programming techniques, and keep the visual creative juices bubbling. I also had to idea of making them quickly thrown together concepts. This was to keep me from overthinking the damn things.

Although true branding involves using one specific logo to get people to immediately associate a company with whatever product they’re pushing. My brands change.

Groonk.net is movies, comics, humor, holidays, pop culture, and TV.

The ideas and concepts may change. But the name is always the same.

I’ve had this one on the boards since August of 2005. It was to go up around the time Six Feet Under closed it’s curtains. I got distracted and abandoned the idea.

Early this year, 2006, I began thinking of closing the doors to this site once and for all. I ultimately decided against that idea as well. Instead I resigned to change my goals. The Six Feet Under logo continued to hang around, begging to be used.

So I used it.

The Deathday became a Birthday instead.

BTW the entry images(main, blog, music) came after talking to a friend of mine. He said that all he saw was changing images when he visited the site. For whatever reason he didn’t have the presence of mind to click the non-entry identified logos. I figured others might have a similar mindset so I added the ‘enter’ images ever since.

That’s groonk.net; Altering it’s design for the unaware.

Go Eat Some Turkey

This image has been known to suddenly transform people to vegetarianism.
