Freddie can't help being covered in vomit

partlycloudy.gifI was talking to an old friend. We talked of politics and the weather. Eventually, we got onto personal happenings. When it came my turn to share, I admitted that I was feeling kinda down these days. A thing that happens to me when I think too much on the future and how the hell I’m going to make a satisfying one.

He informs me there are people worse off than I. I agree to that. Hell, that’s not late breaking news by a long shot. But it did get me to thinking.

carljung.jpgWhy do we insist on judging our own accomplishments or whatnot against the misfortune of others?

What in hell is this schadenfreud-istic obsession?

I’m not exclusively picking on him. I know I’ve done it before, but why do we that?

nomore.gifThinking that I’m better off than Freddie the barf-covered wino doesn’t make my situation any better in the real. It sure as hell doesn’t give me any clues at how to fix my problems. So what use is saying this kind of thing as a pick-me up?

Having written this I now how to ban this phrase from my mental Rolodex. Or else risk being called a hypocrite. God knows people love pointing out hypocrites.

No, I won’t be missing or needing that brand of thinking at all.
