Show Tubes: THE REMNANTS

The Internet moves pretty fast. If I dare blink or put a find off until next week, the relevancy will be missed.

Shot during the writer’s strike last year, THE REMNANTS follows the lives of 5 strangers who’ve become friends in post-apocalypse LA. What I’ve gathered from this 11 minute pilot is:

John August wrote and directed this gem of a potential web series during the strike’s darkest hour. This may explain why everyone seems to click very nicely. It could also explain how he got so many fairly well known names to appear.

Sadly, REMNANTS may be doomed to never be seen as a true series. August reports that the current economy and other factors have stalled any future episodes. This is unfortunate. The comedy is still a bit raw but at least it was funny. Ze Frank surprised me with drama. Everyone else performed pretty much as expected. Which is to say, they did a pretty good job, considering budget and location and etc etc etc.

THE REMNANTS was found while browsing through Vimeo for suitable content. Anything worth watching or talking about, really. Like You Tube, there’s a bunch of crap floating around Vimeo’s general populace. Unlike You Tube, the video quality is outstanding 8 out of 10 times. Although their search and browsing capabilities could be a bit better. I’ve resorted to flipping through the Staff Picks to find worthy watches.

UPDATE: It appears as if THE REMNANTS has generated a small fan following. at http://drafttheremnants.com/ you can offer how much a season of THE REMNANTS is worth to you. How much are you willing to pay for new, original work, people? This is the new world of entertainment. Your enjoyment is no longer dictated by the greedy few but the greedy you!
