If I remember correctly,  some writer in the 80s used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chemguide.co.uk\/atoms\/bonding\/vdw.html\" class=\"external external_icon\">van der waals<\/a> forces to explain Spiderman&#8217;s sticking power.<\/p>\n<p>Science. Fiction. there is no difference anymore.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.news24.com\/News24\/Technology\/News\/0,,2-13-1443_1517782,00.html\" class=\"external external_icon\">Their research, published in Britain&#8217;s Institute of Physics journal Smart Materials and Structures, shows that the &#8220;van der Waals&#8221; adhesive force is behind the spiders&#8217; sticking power. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>That same adhesive force could be harnessed to create spacesuits which would stick to the walls of a spacecraft.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Antonia Kesel, head of the Bremen-based research group, said: &#8220;One possible application of our research would be to develop Post-it notes based on the van der Waals force, which would stick even if they got wet or greasy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You could also imagine astronauts using spacesuits that help them stick to the walls of a spacecraft &#8211; just like a spider on the <a href=\"http:\/\/abc.net.au\/science\/news\/stories\/s1094975.htm\" class=\"external external_icon\">ceiling<\/a>.&#8221;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s an odd and incredibly geeky factoid.
