Remake/Remodel Watch: Coming Soon on HBO, Aquaman!

April 27th, 2011 No comments

Let’s face it, we’re gonna need something stellar to wash the taste of ENTOURAGE out of our brains. GAME OF THRONES is one helluva good start, that’s for sure. Why not get ahead of the game on good TV? Sorry, we meant HBO.*

So your INSTRUCTIONS are:

Design a publicity poster for an adaptation of the DC Comics property AQUAMAN — for HBO. HBO is the home of DEADWOOD, THE WIRE, THE SOPRANOS, ROME, BOARDWALK EMPIRE, you know the score… and therefore you know their stable of showrunners, people like David Simon and David Milch… and the sort of material they do.

The HBO version of AQUAMAN.

We jumped in on the ground floor of this challenge. Paul Sizer has yet to throw his weighty pen around the forum. Be sure to revisit all this week for more submissions.

Pia Guerra made a beautiful statement with few words:

Always remember, Remake/Remodels are meant to be wild reinterpretations of beloved, or silly, characters.

On WhiteChapel: FANTASTIC FOUR #1 Goes Under the Remake/Remodel Microscope

March 18th, 2011 No comments

Earlier this week, the Chinese Whispers Uchronal Cover remodel began anew. This time the focus was on Remaking/Remodeling FANTASTIC FOUR #1. The following were the guiding instructions:

You are an artist/designer. You have to put together the cover for a comic called THE FANTASTIC FOUR. It is issue 1 of this book.

You have been told that the comic is about four people who steal a spaceship, fly into space, get heavily irradiated by cosmic rays, and return to earth weirdly altered by their experience.

And that’s it. The bastards haven’t told you one more damn thing than that. Not a clue. They might all be women. It might be about the Indian space programme twenty years from now. For all you know this is a JG Ballard story, for christ’s sake…

It’s up to you what kind of company you’re at. What kind of comics you make. How you translate that description of The Fantastic Four. What era you’re in. Who you are, even. Go nuts with it.

So far we love Chris Graves entry. It may not be as mental as Chip Zardsky’s(hidden deep below the cut) but it remains comics style fantastic.

We dropped a handful of other favorites(and that Zardsky submission) under the cut. View all the art wonderfulness at Whitechapel.

Remake/Remodeled: Wild West Mister Miracle

September 8th, 2010 No comments

The Whitechapel forum is taking a week off from last week’s nerdgasm event of imagining the 13th Doctor Who. We’ve seen Ben Templesmith’s 13th Doctor fly through our TweetDeck more than once since then.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Twitter friend, and comics artist, @Ten_Bandits, created his own Remake/Remodel: a Wild West Mister Miracle.

This is the first time we’ve been able to look at Jack Kirby’s creation with any kind of respect. No offense to Kirby. We made ours Marvel long before discovering the fantastic art of “The King.”

Compare and contrast with Mister Miracle’s original design.

@Ten_Bandits is threatening to please Internet eyes with a Wild West Big Barda.

We can’t wait.

That Sound You Heard: Internet Nerdgasm. The Thirteenth Doctor Remake/Remodel is On.

August 31st, 2010 No comments

We were going to take time away from reposting WhiteChapel Remake/Remodel projects when Mr Ellis hit us with a theme that could not be ignored.

A Time Lord can regenerate twelve times before dying. Thirteen incarnations in all.

Design the thirteenth incarnation of the Doctor.

You may additionally redesign the DOCTOR WHO logo, the TARDIS and other elements of the property should you so wish.

So far there’s a lot of talk and no art going on. Damn we wish we could draw.

Then Master Templesmith dropped by:

By Ben Templesmith

The 13th Doctor

The good Doctor is now in a vague military type jacket with a T-shirt underneath, that ideally changes logo/style each episode, showing off something cool and British or, I don’t know, Sciency.

And he’s addicted to sucking on lollipops.

K9 is now a know-it-all cyborg Pomeranian.

This art project ends Sunday. We’re definitely keeping an eye on this one.

On WhiteChapel: Wonder Woman’s Character is Remade/ReModeled

August 20th, 2010 1 comment

What is it about this amazon that brings out the art in people?

All this week and part of next is another Wonder Woman makeover. Instead of giving her new couture, Mr Ellis bid his artful followers to re-imagine the character from the ground up.

We hated reducing MrSmite‘s ode to Heinlein with this Starship Trooper Wonder Woman. You owe it to yourselves to view the piece in its embiggened glory.
