It’s Movember! Watch @Rick_Snee Cultivate a Catepillar on His Upper Lip. Donate to Fight Cancer.

Close friend in life, and friend of the site, Rick Snee, has been growing a moustache this merry month of Movember. He’s doing this to fight cancer because cancer must be fought.

Rick’s Motivation
“October is a huge cancer fighting month, and after a month of pink football players, everyone’s ready for a break. But, you know what doesn’t take a break? Cancer. And it affects more than just breasts. Men must take control of their health and be willing to talk about embarrassing medical issues that are symptoms of prostate, colon, and testicular cancer.”

As of this posting he’s collected $215(USD) for his trouble. Internet! We can do better than this! Donate now and fight that cancer with Snee’s hairy lip.

Official Site: http://mobro.co/ricksnee

Just what is Movember?:

Once registered at www.movember.com, men start Movember 1st clean shaven. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

Watch:#Rocktt Interviews Haven Comics Founder @MCuthbert for 10th Anniversary Special

AL.com Senior Producer, Matt Cuthbert began local comics shop Haven Comics, Etc. 10 years ago last Saturday. Here he’s interviewed by Twitter friend, @DanielHorton‘s new monthly online show about tech and geek culture in North Alabama called #Rocktt.

10 years?! That can’t be right. We’re supposed to be traveling the world. Challenging Mars. Writing comics. Who knew we’d be running an online Newsmine of various interests?

Anyway, 10 years is also a long time to be running a retail comics business. Listen to friend Cuthbert talk about why Haven was created, serialized comics vs trade paperbacks, and the ever popular digital comics debate.

Friend, Sancrist Martin 1975-2011

Just a few hours ago we learned that our friend and Egg Radio comrade took his own life yesterday morning. He was 35.

San, I’m sorry that I didn’t notice your pain and that I wasn’t able to help you through it.

RIP, Sancrist Martin.

I’m gonna miss you.

This is Halloween: Pumpkins of Interest

A quick and dirty post for the day.

Jack’s Lantern
Here are MedicMike and Jen’s pumpkins. The backstory: these jack-o-lanterns represent their huskies, Katie and Jack. Jen carved them up. The pumpkin not the dogs.

Jack-O-Lanterns

Wheaton-o-Lantern
An enterprising young @bnsheehan created a Jack’s lantern from a scowling Wil Wheaton.

Wheaton approved!

She brought photos explaining her process.

EF-2 Tornado Skims Through Huntsville, Throws Truck into House

If you missed it, you’re like us. Last Thursday God placed his finger down upon the Earth in Five Points, Huntsville and scratched that itch that’s been bothering him for some time now.

But seriously, folks, a fricking TORNADO skimmed through the Rocket City last week! Where were we? Safe and snug at home. Where was our friend Duncan? Smack dab in the middle of Dangerville. We can’t help but to be a little jealous. Everything happens to Duncan. Sadly he did not photograph what could have been his last night on this Earth. happily he, and the others with him, are very much okay. Far as we can tell, all our local friends survived the twister.

The Flickr pool Alabama Thunderstorms has a wealth of awesome shots of last week’s storm. Flickr user Tyler P. has the best so far.

There’s a whole mess of pictures and video on Al.com: Huntsville tornado: Photos, videos and damage reports

UAH weather scientists want your pictures of the storm. They hope the data will help to better predict future tornadoes:

Anyone with pictures of the tornado, storm cloud, hail or other byproducts of the storm, or with questions, should e-mail them to: pictures@nsstc.uah.edu

Researchers must know as precisely as possible where the photographer was when taking the picture – not just a street address, but whether it was in a front yard, back yard, from a garage or wherever – and what direction the camera was facing. They must also know the time the picture was taken and the photographer’s name and contact information.
They also request that only one or two photos be sent at a time to avoid overloading the computer servers.

The x Days of Xmas: Geek Ornaments for Your Soul

There are only so many days left until that jolly fat man comes knocking on our doors, chimneys and mantles. A definite amount of days. An indefinite amount of items for which we care to share. The “x” is the variable. The unknown amount of time which seeks to be solved. The “Xmas” is a Futurama reference that good little boys and girls will get and enjoy.

Let’s get to it.

Gizmodo asked the question, ‘What’s the nerdiest holiday ornament you’ve ever seen?‘ Luckily we had the answer a full month before they even thought that question.

Ornament - Watchmen

From the mind of the one we call MedicMike a small testament of care to the ultimate Comedian.

Any ornaments you wish to share would be appreciated here(in the comments on this site) or here.

Seriously, Guys. Are You ready for Halloween?

A mere week ago I sent out a call to all my friends to give a me a hand in finding creepy/strange/Halloweeny posting goodness. From that long-ish list of friends I got only one definite reply. This can only mean that a great number of these old friends need to be either updated into the year 21st Century or all out traded for newer, shiny versions of personal council.

While sorting out why I alone must carry the burden of social networking, I ‘ll share with you a snippet of the entry given to me by that Seriously Guy, Rick Snee on why he fears public restrooms so much (here’s a hint: there’s pee and poop in there).

Apparently a lot of people are worried about the cleanliness of public toilets, some even worried about sitting on the seat. They’re even rating dumpsheds online like they’re pissing in college professors. (That’s another web site.)

This is just a friendly SG Reminder: what do you think you’re leaving in there? Bathrooms are tile enclosures for depositing human waste. Your poo-poo. Your pee-pee.

As that insightful entry in its entirety is a bit on the short side, I decided to do what I do best. After running a search using the keyword “Halloween” on all entries via Mr Snee a curious October themed collection was found…
