Nick Brendon *is* SUPER CAT. He just is, ok?

Some Dolphins are Attacking Porpoises to Death

No matter how intelligent or cuddly you think they are, they are wild animals. Their reasons are always their own.

Film taken of gangs of dolphins repeatedly ramming baby porpoises, tossing them in the air and pursuing them to the death has solved a long-term mystery of what causes the death of so many of these harmless mammals - but has left animal experts baffled as to the motive.

Another mystery is that the animal 'murders' have only been reported in two parts of the world - along Scotland's East Coast and in America off the beaches of Virginia, where even more alarmingly, the victims were scores of the dolphins' own young.

The first clues to solving the riddle came in 1997 when, by coincidence, marine biologists in Virginia were finding young, dead dolphins with horrific internal injuries at the same time as young porpoises were washing up on Scotland's north-east coast with identical causes of death. The body count was growing in both locations.

And that video is more sensationalist than it should be. Where are the proper scientists? When they start screaming, "Dolphins are tired of porpoisecide and want to use our blood for bathwater!" That's when I tie the boat to the dock and run for the rockies.

World Not as I Left It, Glow-in-the-Dark Cats Made

By demonstrating that it's possible to clone an animal with a manipulated gene, the research could help scientists better understand human genetic diseases. For example, scientists may be able to reproduce cloned animals suffering from the same diseases as humans. Cats have about 250 of the same kinds of genetic diseases that affect humans.

The ability to clone genetically altered cats may also help to develop new stem cell treatments for humans. And, using the same technology, researchers may be able to clone endangered animals like tigers, leopards and wildcats.

The Office Writers Talk about "Promotions"

Ms Fischer breaks down the situation with hard numbers. This is something I've been wondering about for a while.

Let's say you write a movie script and you sell it for $100,000...that's GREAT money! Your movie gets made and yada yada. You start churning away writing more scripts. But it takes you 4 years before you sell your next script. That $100,000 windfall is now stretched to $25,000 a year for 4 years. (And, I'm not even counting the 30% that goes to taxes and 25% to your agent/manager.) If during that 4 years they sell your movie on DVD or run it on Pay-per-view you get little residual checks for $1,000 here or $2,500 there. That money is essential for getting by. This scenerio is what the majority of writers, actors and directors in Hollywood face. You have a few flush years and then a big drought.

The future of media is the internet. In a few years it is more likely that you will download a movie or television show than buy it on DVD. But as it currently stands, those downloads produce no residuals for the creative types that made them. All the profit goes to the studio.

Opening Up to: Moyashimon: Tales of Agriculture

Are you wondering, "what the fuck?"

Read about Moyashimon:

The main character is Sawaki Tadayasu, a regular Japanese blond guy who's just moved to Tokyo to attend a college of agriculture, along with his best buddy Yuuki Kei . The trouble is, Tadayasu isn't very regular at all -- in fact he can see, touch and speak to germs. Being able to discern what types of germ inhabit a puddle of goo can be quite useful, and this potential is clear to Itsuki Keizou, a germ researching professor, who's an old friend of Tadayasu's grandfather. Not everyone is convinced Tadayasu is telling the truth, however, and to prove his abilities he's put through a rigorous test by the department's graduate student and resident bondage babe, Hasegawa Haruka.

And people say there are no new things on TV.

It looks hell more entertaining than anything I've seen my nieces and nephews watch.

The Internet was made for This: Filipino Inmates do "Thriller"

After watching that, I'm beside my self with awesome. Once you get past the transvestite "girlfriend" and the soft realization hits you square in the brains. 'I've just watched 1500 Filipino Inmates Do Thriller.'

Your life won't ever be the same again.

Grant Morrison Warps Reality. Talks Sigil Magic.

Funny how I can research the various forms of magic(sigil magic, chaos magic) til I'm blue in the face, only to find the info I needed through sideways means months after the initial search began.

When SUPERBAD gets KNOCKED UP, Funny Happens

It looks like Judd Apatow decided to parody the I HEART HUCKABEES disaster that leaked on the intertubes many moons ago. Apatow's parody is basically an advertisement for the Heigl-icious comedy movie KNOCKED UP that's hitting a theater near me soon. I Watch Stuff explains:

This one imagines Michael Cera of Arrested Development and the upcoming Superbad as the original star of Knocked Up who gets fired for being difficult.

Katherine Heigl, you know I could watch you sit at restaurant tables all day. Twice on thursday. But my observation focuses on Micahel Cera.

Hearing Michael Cera say 'fuck' is like watching a smurf...well...fuck, right before your eyes. You're amused by what you just saw/heard but you can't help but think some part of your soul just died. You're gonna have to work hard to shed that ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT George Michael-image.

Otherwise, Judd Apatow, you're just a damn genius. As are you, Michael Showalter.
