Gonzo to Stream New Anime Series Simultaneous with Airing

I must keep this in mind come Friday.

The Japanese media company GDH has announced that the YouTube, Crunchyroll, and BOST online video services will be streaming new titles from GDH's Gonzo animation studio — worldwide and on the same day as their Japanese broadcast. The video streams, which will be in Japanese with English subtitles, will start with The Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Uruk (pictured at right) and Blassreiter anime series. Druaga will premiere on April 4, and Blassreiter will premiere on April 5.

[...]

GDH added that its "decision to provide its content globally in parallel with Japanese broadcast is an effort to offer equal accessibility and new viewing opportunities to fans around the world, while at the same time showcasing a legal online alternative to illegal file-sharing and downloading."

Achi-wa ssipak has Mutant Smurf Attacks

In a future where energy is made from fecal matter, the government rewards defecation with "juicybars". Small-time hustlers try to get rich while fending off the mutated Diaper Gang.

Hyper-violent American teenagers ready yourselves annnnnd: indulge.

Technically Achi-wa ssipak( Aachi And Sspak) is Korean animation and not japanese. It caught my interest no matter where it is from.

Scivee: Scientists very Own You Tube

SciVee is doing this thing where they preload the video without you asking. I dropped that sucker under the cut cause that's annoying as all hell.

Not half as entertaining* as Moyashimon but then again what is?

(via warrenellis)

(*Scivee is not meant ot be entertaining. It's meant to share information. But who says hard fact can't be interesting too? 21st century Bill Nye/Mr Wizard, 'Where the hell are you??')

Here's a Microbeworld video on episode 11.

Opening Up to: Moyashimon: Tales of Agriculture

Are you wondering, "what the fuck?"

Read about Moyashimon:

The main character is Sawaki Tadayasu, a regular Japanese blond guy who's just moved to Tokyo to attend a college of agriculture, along with his best buddy Yuuki Kei . The trouble is, Tadayasu isn't very regular at all -- in fact he can see, touch and speak to germs. Being able to discern what types of germ inhabit a puddle of goo can be quite useful, and this potential is clear to Itsuki Keizou, a germ researching professor, who's an old friend of Tadayasu's grandfather. Not everyone is convinced Tadayasu is telling the truth, however, and to prove his abilities he's put through a rigorous test by the department's graduate student and resident bondage babe, Hasegawa Haruka.

And people say there are no new things on TV.

Cutey Honey TV Show Less Silly than the New BIONIC WOMAN

Yes. Cutey Honey just fought the Bad Guys with her tits and ass.

God bless Japan.

Hmmm. Maybe if the new BIONIC WOMAN did that in every episode every ten minutes, I could be bothered to give a damn about the show. If Katee Sackhoff did that, well, that will have bought me for the entire season.

And holy damn, did you see what that Stairs Stuntman did there? You couldn't pay me enough to do that stunt.

BTW I watched the Cutey Honey movie once, too.

WEB TRAILER: Drawn By Pain

Drawn By Pain is a web series that involves live action and anime-like drawings. From what I can tell, a real life girl has the ability to bring her drawings to life. Of course, the little girl has been damaged all to hell.

The trailer's better than most web made shows I've seen. It's too late to view any of the series but view it I shall. As soon as I'm awake at a "decent" hour.

Also, the brightcove feature looks like a handy bit of code. The auto-start is a bit annoying. I might drop the code below the jump in a day or so.

UPDATE: It happened. The trailer's under the cut.

New PAPRIKA Trailer Stuns My Brain with Beauty

This has to be the one movie I'm looking forward to this spring. Aside from 300, of course.

The trailer's only at the Apple site right now. You Tube doesn't have it yet.

Damnit.

And if this is the intro to PAPRIKA...holy shit, man!

PAPRIKA is Curiously Cool Looking

This ain't your mama's paprika. This here PAPRIKA will invade your headspace and cause fits of cool to shudder throughout your body.

Can dreams drive you crazy? Is the boundary between dream life and so-called real life permeable? Satoshi Kon has been making brilliant animations based on these and similar questions since "Perfect Blue," his 1998 feature debut about an idol singer whose life, inner as well as outer, is invaded by an obsessed fan.

His latest and, he says, last investigation of this dream-vs.-reality theme is "Paprika," which premiered at this year's Venice Film Festival and has been selected as a possible nominee for an animation Oscar. I have no idea if his film will make it into the final five, but it is definitely different from not only the talking-animal, 3G animation for kiddies that is now standard in Hollywood, but also the manga-based, sci-fi fantasy that the Japanese animation industry exports in large quantities to the world.

True, it has SF elements, the main one being a gizmo called the DC Mini that looks like a futuristic hearing aid and can transmit the wearer's dreams -- think of an MP3 Web site that allows you to share dreams instead of tunes.

But instead of focusing on his hardware or spinning the usual good-vs.-evil SF story, Kon takes his audience on a wild, fantastic ride into a land of extreme dreaming, where primal desires and fears (absolute freedom, appropriation of one's identity by a malevolent Other) come to gaudy, phantasmagorical life.

I know it sounds like THE CELL. But this actually has a thought behind it. I'm sure of this(sight unseen) cause director Satoshi Kon did the amazing PERFECT BLUE, the mesmerizing MILLENIUM ACTRESS, and the flat out awesome PARANOIA AGENT.

That's 3 to 1 against CELL director Tarsem Singh.

All THE CELL did was show me J Lo smoking pot(points for the panty shot) and Vicnent D'Onofrio in weird hair. It got points for mentioning FANTASTIC PLANET but lost all off them when it turned into a 90 minute music video.

There's a one sheet under the cut.

FANIME: Conjure One "Center of the Sun" + Metropolis

This won both Fanime 2003 and Anime Expo 2003 Best Drama Category. It also took the AnimeExpo 2003/Otaku Outpost "Most Artistic Video" award. So it has to be groovy!!! Eh logic....ahahhahaha *sweatdrop* well I digged it at least...I DIDN'T MAKE THIS VIDEO, I JUS FOUND IT AT animemusicvideos.org...song is Center of the Sun by Conjure One

Honestly, one of the coolest anime/music mash-ups I've seen ever.

Listen to those vocals. There's Poe in there.

So much Miyazaki, So little time

There's a whole mess of Hayao Miyazaki movies airing this month on Turner Classic Movies channel. And by a whole mess I mean a month. And by a month I mean every Thursday.

The whole damn thing kicks off tonight with Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.

Now even if you never even heard of anime or flat out don't like it, I encourage you to give any Miyazaki flick a try. His work transcends the anime barrier and creates a category all it's own. A category named Consistent Good Storytelling.

Some call Hayao Miyazaki the "Japanese Walt Disney." I prefer to call him "God of all Stories." He shares the title with Neil Gaiman and Joss Whedon, when he eats all his vegetables.

Warren Ellis relegated himself to Internet Jesus. So his title is defined.

I'm stoked that I finally get to see "Nausicaa of the Valley" and "My Neighbor Totoro". Though I'm disappointed that "Kiki's Delivery Service" didn't make the list.

7 Days in Japan

7 Days in Japan follows "Japanese animation super fan Joe Doughrity, the black guy with the Irish name, as he sets out to fulfill his dream of visiting Japan".

Next time that black guy visiting Japan will be me.

Though I'll leave all the beer-can fucking to Demonbaby.

But if they're just lying there in a vending machine, who's to fault me for buying one for novelty purposes? I mean, it's not like I'd actually fuck the thing.

Maybe.

...

I'll shut up now.

Anime Watch

Memento may be a way for me to keep up with the latest anime in Japan.

I was looking for something called Speed Grapher and managed to find a trailer for it. Not sure about that one.

I haven't run across any really good and new series lately. What's with the slump, guys?
