sgtpepperlonelyheartsclubband.jpg
The Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, the Fray and other popular rock groups have joined to record songs from "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in honor of Friday's 40th anniversary of the Beatles' epochal album.

During the special recording session, which airs on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday, musicians and audio engineer Geoff Emerick will work with the same equipment the Beatles used for their album.

Billy Idol Rocks-Out Christmas!

I'm dying from awesome! Who'd think I'd live to hear Billy Idol rock-out christmas?!*

Idol's myspace gives you samples.

billyidolhappyholidayscover.jpgBilly Idol's new album "Happy Holidays" is now available for purchase through BillyIdol.net.

The track list for the album:
Frosty the Snowman

Here Comes Santa Claus
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Santa Claus Is Back In Town
Let It Snow
Winter Wonderland
Run Rudolph Run
Blue Christmas
Jingle Bell Rock

Auld Lang Syne

Be one of the first five hundred people to purchase "Happy Holidays" and receive a Christmas card personally signed from Billy.

Dunc! had this thought, "Woulda been awesome if Idol took his old songs and just put Christmas words to them."

  • White Wedding -> White Christmas

I contributed:

  • Rock the Cradle of Love -> Rock the Cradle of Christmas

Still naysay the Idol Christmas groove? Watch the vid under the cut.

LISTEN: Neil Gaiman Inspires Artists to Music

A tribute album is ready to be bought this July 18th. The album is called "Where's Neil When You Need Him?". Think of it as art inspired by art. Fabulist.org has already shared two cuts from the album. I like the Lunascape song the most. It was inspired by Stardust the book. Soon to be "Stardust" the movie. Both songs are linked and ready to be tested.

gaimaintributedisc.jpg

Track Listing:
1 Rasputina - Coraline
2 ThouShaltNot - When Everyone Forgets
3 Tapping The Vein - Trader Boy
4 Lunascape - Raven Star
5 Deine Lakaien - A Fish Called Prince
6 Thea Gilmore - Even Gods Do
7 Rose Berlin (feat. Curve) - Coraline
8 Schandmaul - Magda Treadgolds Märchen
9 Hungry Lucy - We Won't Go
10 Voltaire w/The Oddz - Come Sweet Death
11 Future Bible Heroes - Mr. Punch
12 Razed in Black - The Endless
13 The Cruxshadows - Wake the White Queen
14 Ego Likeness - You Better Leave the Stars Alone
15 Azam Ali - The Cold Black Key
16 Joachim Witt - Vandemar
17 Tori Amos - Sister Named Desire (New Master)

The only thing I see wrong with this album is that it misses my birthday by a solid two weeks. How am I to worm this gift out of friends when I'll be all but forgotten when the disc hits the stores. *sigh* Such is my life.

LISTEN: Alexi Murdoch

I literally just heard a track of his on Eggradio.com. It fit the mood I'm in so I looked him up on the good ole interwub.

LISTEN: KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic show featuring Alexi Murdoch.

aleximurdoch-last of the ep.jpgHis sound is sorta folksy-pop(yeah, it's a down kind mood this evening/monring). But Murdoch's sound actually has a soul. If it could become a thing alive, it would live and die and get definite admission into heaven. Whichever one it believed in, of course.

There's a 2003 Austin Chronicle article that drops a good word on him, too. I'm not finding any new buzz on Alexi Murdoch. Wonder what happened to him.

He's scottish, kids. So he's not crap.

LISTEN DOWNLOAD: "Dark Sonnet", A Song Written by Neil Gaiman

Montage back cover final2small .jpgMeanwhile, over at the Lorraine and Malena webpage, Malena has put up an MP3 of the first track of their new CD.

(She phoned to ask how to put up part of an MP3, and took my suggestion to put up the whole songs instead, on the basis that if people like them they may buy the CD or share them with friends, and either way people will hear them.)

It's a song I wrote the words and music for, arranged by Chris Ewen, and is also, I'm afraid, a sonnet. (L/M are a mighty two-headed blogger as well.)

Go and listen.

REHASH: Ghouls with Attitude

ghoulswithattitude.jpgLast October the totally free downloadable album Ghouls with Attitude was featured on Boingboing and then in my music section. Given that my music section is undergoing a change, I figure to repost the good stuff here.

Imagine my surprise to find that not only is this Halloween collection of odd and rare music is still available for download but that a new album will be added soon.

LISTEN: Ditty Bops

The Ditty Bops's sound is... difficult..to describe.
dittybps.jpg

It's as if someone willingly mixed bluegras, the Squirrel Nut Zippers, 40s to 50s crossover pop into a medium sized stew pot and added water. Lightly salt with Shakespeare's Sister sensibilities and you've got a very eclectic soup.

Don't believe me? Give them a listen.

LISTEN: Jack's Mannequin

Andrew from Something Corporate has a new project going called Jack's Mannequin. The album being released through this project is called "Everything in Transit".

I listened to the mixed tape featured on the Jack's Mannequin site.

I may have to buy this sucker.

LISTEN: Danger Doom is coming

Saw the first advertisement on Adult Swim about a week or so ago. They've stepped up the campaign since then.

dangerdoom.jpgTwo of this generation's most respected hip-hop artists, Danger Mouse and MF DOOM, have come together to produce DANGERDOOM: The Mouse and the Mask, an album inspired by Adult Swim, Cartoon Network's popular late-night animation network. The album, set to debut in October 2005, will be released on Epitaph Records, in association with Adult Swim. The album will contain character voices and skits from Adult Swim's most popular original shows, including Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021 and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.

They played bits of the album in The Swim's bumps.

It sounds fucking awesome!

By the by, I found some mp3 samples of some Danger Mouse tracks on this thread. Some of the links are dead though.

Better get the rest while they live.

Who loves you harder?

LISTEN: From Poe to Jane...

...and hopefully back again.

Conjure One's follow-up release Extraordinary Ways is set for release on August 30 (Nettwerk America), and for the first time in his career, sees Fulber on vocal duties, delivering a unique modern take on the oft-neglected Buzzcocks classic "I Believe." Two singers from the first Conjure One album also return in the form of Jane, formerly Poe ("Endless Dream," "One Word" and "Extraordinary Way") and Chemda ('Forever Lost'), while new vocalist collaborators are Tiff Lacey ('Face The Music') and Joanna Stevens ('Dying Light').

7d found out someone wrote that bit of article poorly. Poe and Chemda will collectively be Jane for the latest Conjure One album. I think that's how it works.

"Extraordinary Way" and three other songs are streamed on their myspace url.

A must have album for any true Poe fan.
