From comics veteran John Byrne’s message board:
I was watching a few minutes of the WATCHMEN movie on cable last night, and I found myself musing on the notion of a “prequel” or sequel to the original comicbook series.
In WATCHMEN, Moore inverted — I might say perverted — pretty much everything the superhero genre is all about. He was not the first to do so, but WATCHMEN was the first time we got it all in such a concentrated dose. Largely, this seems to have happened because Moore is very much a one trick pony. The one trick works for him and his fans, so no problem there, I guess. But this got me to thinking about who would be a suitable candidate to produce another round of WATCHMEN.
The thought began to take shape in my head that any revisiting of those characters should be a continuation of the “tradition” of WATCHMEN. That is, as Moore trashed everything superheroes were all about, the next go-round should do the same with WATCHMEN itself. So the ideal candidate for doing the project should be someone who is equally a one trick pony, but from the opposite end of the spectrum. Immediately, one name sprang to the forefront: Rob Liefeld.
No, I’m not kidding. Liefeld would be to WATCHMEN what Moore was to superheroes in general. And it would be such fun to watch a whole flock of retailer’s heads exploding, as they tried to serve two entirely different faces of mammon!
- John Byrne
Sorry, Byrne. Your argument is invalid.

There are only so many days left until that jolly fat man comes knocking on our doors, chimneys and mantles. A definite amount of days. An indefinite amount of items for which we care to share. The “x” is the variable. The unknown amount of time which seeks to be solved. The “Xmas” is a Futurama reference that good little boys and girls will get and enjoy.
Let’s get to it.
Gizmodo asked the question, ‘What’s the nerdiest holiday ornament you’ve ever seen?‘ Luckily we had the answer a full month before they even thought that question.
From the mind of the one we call MedicMike a small testament of care to the ultimate Comedian.
Any ornaments you wish to share would be appreciated here(in the comments on this site) or here.

Alan Moore may be “spitting venom” all over Zack Snyder’s production of WATCHMEN, one of Moore’s many genius works, but from where I’m sitting, nothing is gonna stop Snyder from making the thing anything less than awesomesauce.
Earlier today, the Twitterverse went a little mad over the new WATCHMEN trailer’s internet debut. Having taken a minute out of the day to finally watch it, I must say it’s worth all the hooha.
The first tease of the filmic WATCHMEN was mind-blowing. The use of Smashing Pumpkins “Beginning is the End is the Beginning”(Blipped for your convenience) was nothing less than perfect. Faithful Viewers noticed scenes from this trailer matched the book shot for shot. I thought Snyder must have blown his wad on making a trailer so kick-ass that the movie had no hope of living up to the hype.
This second trailer has erased all doubt of that. Effective utilization of Muse’s “Take a Bow”(Blipped again), more dialogue hinting at actual story, and enough action shots to overload your average Dead Space player.

Who indeed?
A quote taken from the roman writer Juvanel (50 -130 A.D.). This was the tagline to the now mainstream knowledgeable graphic novel The Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. I’ve come to love these old episodes of Prisoners of Gravity that have been popping up on You Tube. They were podcasts before the world would know or even understand what a podcast was or what the hell a podcast could be.
Now we have an entire episode dedicated to Moore’s and Gibbons’ Watchmen creation:
part 1
part 2
part 3
Almost forgot to include a quote from Alan Moore from a recent interview conducted by the LA Times.
“I find film in its modern form to be quite bullying,” Moore told me during an hour-long phone call from his home in England. “It spoon-feeds us, which has the effect of watering down our collective cultural imagination. It is as if we are freshly hatched birds looking up with our mouths open waiting for Hollywood to feed us more regurgitated worms. The ‘Watchmen’ film sounds like more regurgitated worms. I for one am sick of worms. Can’t we get something else? Perhaps some takeout? Even Chinese worms would be a nice change.”
Say what you will, Mr Moore. I even agree with the bulk of your ideas. But I still would like to see what Zack Snyder made of your work.
