Dom DeLuise (1933-2009)

Dom Deluise

He had no desire to act professionally, instead hoping to become a biologist. On leaving school he enrolled at Tufts College to study the subject, but lasted only one term.

I’ll never forget trying to dissect my first frog,” he recalled. “We stared at each other, and then the thought of what I was about to do made me sick, and I just let him go.” DeLuise left to join Cleveland’s Cain Park Theatre in 1952.

It’s been weeks since the passing of Dom DeLuise. Time does not matter on these things. We were just a Kid Groonk watching him in CANNONBALL RUN so many years ago. This was at a drive-in movie theater in Alex City, we think. No, they had not died out by then but they were well on their way. Then followed HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART 1, SPACEBALLS, and BLAZING SADDLES. All easily rentable on the VHS playing devices.

Dom DeLuise made us laugh. We’ll never forget him for that.
