The nerd rock trend that overtook our heart last week continues with choice jams from Adam WarRock.

TRACKLOG 66 – CALL ME JOHNNY WANDER

WarRock talks a lot about how this ode to Johnny Wander came about. Johnny Wander is a webcomic we encountered through AppleGeeks writer, Ananth‘s Twitter. Once discovered, it didn’t take long to read through the entire series from beginning to end.

…and 50 minutes later, I looked around and realized that I had read the whole book, and was laughing to myself in the corner. By myself. Like a crazy person. But more importantly, I realized that I had been smiling more than laughing. Think about it, it’s a hard thing for a comic, especially one that’s not necessarily a continuous story arc, to accomplish.

He’s right. It is very nice to come across a webcomic that has this effect.

World’s Finest Porno Set Almost Complete, SUPERMAN XXX Coming Soon.

September 22nd, 2010 No comments

Our initial heads-up that SUPERMAN XXX was actually happening was a tweet from porn star James Deen (@jamesdeenNSFW). Deen has a habit of posting pics from his shoots(very NSFW). His Twitter and blog are so ludicrously NSFW that even thinking of clicking there sets off human resources porny-sense.

We wanted to wait until there was an actual trailer for the thing, like with BATMAN XXX: A PORN PARODY. Seeing Comics Alliance and the rest of the damn Internet(Google the title and be amazed) has posted on this already made us feel left out of the snark-fest.

Ridiculously SFW behind-the-scenes video and brief opinion of said video below the cut.

Comics Pipeline will Give You Access to Top Creators Exclusive Artwork

September 22nd, 2010 No comments

Ben Templesmith shared a bit of “Other Media” news last night.

A quick sign-up to the Comics Pipeline newsletter reveals Jimmie Robinson is involved, too.

But what is it?

Comics Pipeline will be working with the industry’s top-tier creators to push exclusive, original, never-before-seen artwork and content, from their drawing tables and piped directly to you. You subscribe to the creators that you want to see without getting inundated with the material you don’t want to see.

After digging through their FAQ at what has become an ungodly hour to be working on this Newsmine, we discover the cost of exclusive content from your favorite comics artists will be $5 per month. There’s a bit of creative copy writing going on there that refuses to join the “$5″ with “per month.” But we won’t quibble about clever writing.

Here’s our take on what Comics Pipeline is and is not:
Comics Pipeline Is Not…

  • …a social network. Nor does it want to be.
  • …printable. It’s the exclusivity that drives interest.
  • …Deviant Art. Which is what it sounds like it would be if not for the $5 fee.

Comics Pipeline Is…

  • …exclusive. As mentioned above, this is the selling point.
  • …interesting. We’ve love to have access to Robinson and Templesmith’s original art on a monthly basis.
  • …a subscription service… after a fashion. They way they describe it is each artist will have their own channel where you view their doodles.
  • …like going to a comic shop. Only, instead of books, you subscribe to your favorite artist.

We suggest you read their landing page/FAQ in earnest to learn more.

More information will be released as the launch date nears, no doubt. We’re already sold on the exclusive art and even the small monthly fee. What really piques our interest is how they plan on policing these images escaping into the wilds of the Internet. Sure the images won’t be any good size to hang on your man-cave wall but won’t that break the idea of paying members getting “exclusive” content?

We’re not trying to bash the service before it gets started. The creative and logistic halves of our brain tends to conflict when intriguing new ideas come around. We can only wait and see what Comics Pipeline will have to offer.

When’s it coming?

#MashupMonday: Marvel Cats! Superheroes Drawn as Felines. #MRVLCATS

September 20th, 2010 No comments

It’s not clear how this started but @Agent_M started collecting artists concepts of MRVLCATS on his Tumblr, Agent M Loves Tacos.

It’s also not clear why Brian Michael Bendis* is annoyed by MRVLCATS. To that we can only say, the Internet has its fair share of haters.

We think they’re kinda neat.

Today in Star Wars: Trololord Vader

September 20th, 2010 No comments

Trolololo is not a meme we ever loved, much less liked. The addition of Darth Vader, finally, made it worth knowing.
